1950 John Deere BN First Wash and 3Pt Hitch Repairs

It was time to break out the pressure washer and get the growth off the BN today. Here's an after shot.

It's not the nicest looking tractor out there but it is a lot better than it was. Here's a before shot.

This photo of the hood gives an idea of the "before" growth.

Next I decided to try to free up the 3pt hitch sway control arms. Their adjusting capabilities were not working, as in the threads were rusted solid. It took a lot of heat from the acetylene torch to get them to budge, and I was only able to get three of the four ends unstuck. The fourth end did turn ever so slightly but then it just did not want to go any further. I decided to leave it for now. One of the arms also had a piece of angle iron welded to it for strength, as the center tube had some damage that you can see in the photo below. I cut the angle iron off and ground down the welds. The sway arm still looks plenty strong without the angle iron piece.

I reinstalled the sway arms and then put on my 3pt receiver hitch gizmo so I now have a hydraulically operated trailer hitch on the tractor.
