A couple days ago I showed a photo of my cross slide chip guard cobbled from a piece of sheet metal. It worked but didn't look that great. What do I have at my disposal that could possibly make a better guard? Why, a 3D printer, of course.
Yes, it's still purple. Tons better than the flimsy sheet metal one I made, if you ask me. It took maybe 45 minutes to draw the sketch in Fusion 360, then a little over 2 hours to print it.
I added the "Atlas 618" text to the side and inset it 0.050" just for fun. The radiused corner on the one side is for the cross slide gib screw clearance, and was put in during modeling. I didn't add the screw hole to the model since the threaded part is off center to the slide and I didn't want to mess up the position during printing. I just drilled the hole after the part was done.
One last parting shot. Maybe it needs paint...
