1966 Barracuda Post-Paint Reassembly

The long and tedious job of reassembly is next on the to-do list for the 'Cuda. One of the first jobs was to put the windshield back in. I used a new rubber seal. Later in this post I installed the lock strip.

The front bumper goes on. This thing cost over $1,000 to have re-chromed. Yikes.

Yay, the lights still work.

I touched up the flat black paint behind the grill.

The all-important Pentastar.

Hood safety latch is installed after a quick coat of flat black.

The rear lights work. A couple days after doing this I realized the right brake light was burned out. The lights that are on are the tail lights and backup lights.

The grill is installed. Notice the newly-painted center emblem. The license plates on the car are the ones my parents got when they bought a one-year-old 1966 Plymouth Fury VIP in 1967. Yes, I have kept these plates all these years. I did give them to my brother when he bought this car in October, 2006, and they came with the car when I bought it from him in June of 2018.

These next few photos show the lock strip being installed in the windshield gasket. I bought a special tool to help with the job. The driver's side of the blue tape marks the center of the windshield.

This strip is plastic with a chromed center. I bent the plastic by hand to get it around the corners.

It's not very clear in this photo but I put a piece of blue painter's tape through the hole in the installation tool so it wouldn't mar the chrome finish on the plastic. It seemed to help.

The windshield is complete. After I took the photo, I installed the small stainless steel clip to cover where the two lock strip ends meet.

The all-important Formula S emblem.

I installed the old trunk lid until such time as I repair one of the two trunk lids I have. One has a bazillion pin holes, and this trunk lid (below) has its inner lip rusted away to oblivion. Having a trunk lid installed looks better than having a gaping hole in the back of the car.
